Loss of volume
in the lips

Do you know what causes and how to treat loss of lip volume?
Find out in this article.

What causes loss of volume in the lips?

From the age of 30, our cells begin to lose the ability to reproduce the elements responsible for skin support and elasticity, such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. In this sense, as the aging process progresses, the tendency is for the lips to start to become flaccid, as well as the surrounding skin, generating popularly known wrinkles, such as barcode, puppet lines and Chinese moustache.

In addition, there are new studies that suggest that, as we age, the thickness of the soft tissues that make up the lips decreases, which leads to a loss of volume in this area, enhancing the flaccid and wrinkled appearance due to the lack of elastin and collagen.

How to recover the volume of the lips?

The best way to recover the volume of the lips is through the application of injectables to recover the lost volume. Nowadays there are very advanced and safe lip filling techniques. The procedure is very simple and consists of applying biosynthesized hyaluronic acid – an element naturally present in the human body – in order to fill in the lips, restoring their natural volume.

Injectable hyaluronic acid is completely compatible with the human body and is resorbable. It can also be applied around the lips, such as the Chinese mustache, barcode and puppet lines in order to fill in the deepest wrinkles, visibly reducing the appearance of aging.

The other advantage of this treatment is that hyaluronic acid is also a biostimulator. This means that, when applied to the skin, it has the ability to stimulate cells to naturally produce collagen and elastin, thus promoting a general improvement in the quality of the skin in the treated area.
