What Causes Protruding Ears?

Protruding ears, popularly known as protruding ears, usually arise due to poor positioning, change in shape or hypertrophy of ear structures. That is, in most cases the ear is not large, it is just further from the head. Ear shape is a genetic condition, so if at least one parent has Protruding ears, it is likely that this trait will be passed on to their offspring.

To understand better, in Protruding ears, the cartilage is very developed in the part that connects it to the skull, which gives the impression that the ears are too far apart from the head and projected to the sides. There are also completely opposite cases, in which the deformation is due to a lack of cartilage fold in the antihelix area, which gives the appearance of an extremely extended and flat ear.

How to treat Protruding ears?

The most suitable solution for correcting protruding ears is surgery. Otoplasty is the surgical technique dedicated to correcting these congenital or acquired ear deformities. This surgery can be performed on patients as young as 7 years old, as the ears are fully developed from that age onwards. Adults can also undergo Otoplasty without any type of restriction.
