The double chin or double chin is the accumulation of excessive fat in the area below the chin. This pocket of fat is generally related to obesity, but there are also cases in which it appears in patients who are not overweight. In these cases, the double chin may be due to genetic, hormonal or weight loss processes.
Belkyra is an injectable substance that consists of a cytolytic compound, which means that, when injected into the subcutaneous fat tissue, it physically destroys the fat cell membrane. The remnants of fat cells are then naturally eliminated by the body.
Belkyra is a very simple and quick procedure to perform. The first step will be the facial evaluation in which the doctor will mark the area to be treated. The product is then injected locally through intradermal injections into the subcutaneous fat tissue under topical local anesthesia. Small amounts of Belkyra are injected at various points on the jowls.
This procedure is performed in a doctor’s office for about 20 minutes. The doctor will determine how many sessions will be necessary taking into account the amount of excess fat that the patient has in the area, and most patients present satisfactory results between the 2nd and 4th treatment session, which is carried out at intervals of 1 month between sessions.
The treatment may eventually produce a slight bruise that can be disguised with make-up or a tinted sunscreen. Swelling may appear that disappears within 24 hours and a burning sensation that may remain for a few hours after application.
Normal activities can be resumed immediately. Physical exercise should be avoided on the day of the procedure.
