Hyaluronic Acid is a polysaccharide that naturally exists in our skin. It has a high capacity to attract water and stimulates collagen production, promoting deep hydration and contributing to skin elasticity. Injectable hyaluronic acid was developed to be completely biocompatible with the human body and exists in different types of concentration and degrees of density. This makes this product very versatile, and can be used as a moisturizer, filler for fine lines and wrinkles or as a volumizer, for lip, mandibular and chin fillers, among others.

Facial filling with hyaluronic acid is an aesthetic procedure performed in different areas of the face. Most of the time it is intended to treat the effects of aging by filling wrinkles that appear in different areas, such as around the eyes or mouth, between the eyebrows or in the nasolabial folds.

However, Hyaluronic Acid can also be used as a volumizer allowing the remodeling of the face, such as giving volume to the jaw area, cheekbones, lips, chin, treating deep dark circles and reshaping the nose. It can also be used to restructure facial volumes lost due to ageing, such as to recover the loss of volume in the lips and malar or temporal regions, for example.

Treatment - Filler with Hyaluronic Acid

After a careful evaluation of the face and, taking into account the objectives to be achieved and facial harmony, the area where the needle or cannula is to be introduced is disinfected and a local anesthetic is applied. Then hyaluronic acid is applied and, after the procedure, ice is applied and the area is massaged.

Hyaluronic Acid: What else you need to know about the procedure

Facial filling with hyaluronic acid is a very simple and quick aesthetic procedure. It is done in the office under local anesthesia and takes about twenty to thirty minutes to perform.

Before carrying out the treatment, it is important that the area to be treated is completely clean and free of make-up. If you have a history of cold sores, antiviral treatment should be started three days before the procedure. If you are taking any anti-inflammatory drug, such as aspirin, you should stop taking it 24 hours before applying hyaluronic acid.

After the procedure you should not eat until the effects of the anesthesia have completely disappeared. During the following days, you should not drink hot drinks or soups to avoid applying heat directly to the treated area. You should also avoid facial hair removal with hot wax, as well as saunas, hot baths and tobacco. After the treatment, you can moisturize the treated area, massage it and apply sunscreen, especially in the first days after the procedure.

Hyaluronic acid is retained in the area where it was applied and, therefore, this is extremely unlikely to happen. However, if the product expands, it will be absorbed by the body over time or it may be withdrawn.

It can and, in many cases, it is indicated. In some cases, the application of hyaluronic acid is combined with botox or biostimulators for a more complete rejuvenating effect. However, the combination should be evaluated by the physician in order to perform procedures that are compatible with each other.

There is no maximum number, but the doctors at Clínica Baptista Fernandes always value the harmony and naturalness of the results and, therefore, excessive doses that cause drastic changes will never be applied.

Nowadays, hyaluronic acid is completely biocompatible with the human body and, therefore, it is very rare to have allergic reactions. However, patients who have a history of herpes should take medication before the procedure as the application of acid can trigger the development of local herpes in the treated area.

Facial filling is usually performed with local anesthesia, although anesthetic ointment or application of ice to the site immediately before infiltration can also be used to reduce sensitivity. However, in either case, you may slightly feel the prick of the needle or cannula.

As a rule, they last between six months and a year, but the effective duration of the filling varies greatly from body to body and how quickly it absorbs hyaluronic acid.
