A good facial harmony depends on the balance between a set of aesthetic elements. Three of these elements are the chin, nose and cheekbones. A well-defined and projected chin, with well-structured contours and dimensions in line with the jaw, promotes an aesthetically beautiful and youthful face. That’s why Mentoplasty is one of the most common surgeries performed at Clínica Baptista Fernandes.

An insufficient projection of the chin distorts the contour of the mouth and decreases the depth of the neck. On the other hand, an overly pronounced chin negatively affects the aesthetics of the female face. The relationship between the chin and the projection of the nose must always be in conformity for a harmonious profile.

Mentoplasty or Reduction Mentoplasty are the most suitable solutions to correct these problems, being divided between Augmentation and Reduction Mentoplasty. In the case of Augmentation Mentoplasty , silicone implants are used to promote more projection. In cases of Reduction Mentoplasty , the area is shaped with a drill or through an osteotomy. In both cases, the facial change achieved with the surgery is extraordinary.

Surgical treatment - Mentoplasty

Mentoplasty is a very simple surgical procedure that is performed on an outpatient basis under general or local anesthesia, in approximately 1 hour and a half . The surgery is performed orally, that is, an incision is made inside the mouth and, therefore, the scars are completely imperceptible. A silicone prosthesis is placed through this incision or a bone repositioning is performed with forward or backward osteotomy. When the procedure is intended to increase the projection of the chin, it is common to associate this surgery with a rhinoplasty.

Mentoplasty : What you need to know about the surgery

The post-operative period for Mentoplasty at Clínica Baptista Fernandes is quite simple, but there are certain precautions to be taken into account. Shortly after the surgery, local compression is applied for a few days to immobilize the implant or bone. It is extremely necessary to carry out a correct oral disinfection daily as well as a soft and cold diet. Between the first 7 to 10 days after surgery, it is recommended to remain at rest. It is normal for the area to have some swelling and some sensitivity. To alleviate this, ice packs should be applied and drained at the Clinic according to medical advice.
